Adayar now called as Adyar is a bulky neighborhood in south Chennai region, Tamil Nadu in India. It is situated on the southern banks of the Adyar River. It is surrounded by the Buckingham Canal to the west area, Tiruvanmiyur to the south and Besant Nagar to the east city. Sub-localities of Adyar comprise Gandhi Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Indira Nagar, Padmanabha Nagar, Venkatarathnam Nagar, Bhaktavatsalam Nagar, Parameshwari Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Jeevaratnam Nagar, Karpagam Gardens and Arunachalapuram. The centre of this zone goes along the Sardar Patel Road, Chennai, amid Gandhinagar in north region and Kasturbai Nagar in south region. The main headquarter of Theosophical Society is also in Adyar.
